Mos...Mr Schank, I am peruvian and I agree with you. Most of schools here, specially public schools, qualify kid´s knowledge by this kind of exams, asking things that maybe they won´t use in their whole life, things that they can consult in a book or internet, while kids grow up thinking they are not talented because they get bad grades at Maths, with worried parents beside them who have to hire private teachers to get their children pass the year. Parent and teachers quit attention to other important things like values...most children in public and also private schools grow up insecure, with resentment, they use swear words (I have heard 5 year old kids)
Kids need to find and develop their talent to grow up with self confidence, they need to use criteria, they need to experience real world according to their interests.
I hope to meet you someday. I would like to cooperate with education in my country.
P.S: I was 1st place at school but I don´t think that helped me much, there are other things I have learnt in my life, from experiences, from good people.Analúhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11091548370381724263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072440028440011959.post-78299209909158003632014-07-18T12:42:57.757-04:002014-07-18T12:42:57.757-04:00Roger,
As always, I agree with you completely.
...Roger,

As always, I agree with you completely.

As a pathological optimist, I am always striving for positive change. I have to say though, education is sorely testing my optimism for change.

Given the exponential changes rocking every layer of scoiety, I cannot imagine another 10 years of education as usual. I would love to see a smooth transition into the new school, but I think there is a 0.01% chance this will happen . Unfortunately, it will most likely be an implosion. So be it. At least we can then start from scratch and actually begin to do what real learning looks like.

Thank you again for all of your posts. It always gives me a real boost. I am doing my best to influence how education gets done in my home province and then of course the world. Education, to me, seems like the most change-resistant industry on Earth where it should be the leader of innovation. Sad.

Here is a post I just published on the Chief Learning Officer:

http://jakewest.ca/entrepenuer/the-chief-learning-officer/

I think you will enjoy it. And of course, a comment from your would be sincerely appreciated.

I follow your work closely and I look forward to the day when we can triumphantly declare the old school (and Pearson!) dead!

Thank you again and have a great day. jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11090164573084930651noreply@blogger.com
